The Giant Slime speaking about here is the blue slime at the end of Stage 1-3. While he appears in various other places, it's unconfirmed whether those will suffice for this quest.

The Shining Piece of Gold is used to acquire various boxes at the [Track in the Forest]. They are also used in another quest from the Practice Field.

Hard Wood drops from the Corrupt Tree Spirits which can be found on Stage 1-8 and 1-10. I recommend Stage 1-8 for farming this quest.
